Week 11 – Midweek Brownie Bits
November 18th, 2009 | by Ward Peterson |Another midweek for the Browns……here are a few Brownie Bits for you to chew on:
Quinn’s Week Gets Even Worse
After the worst performance of his young career on Monday night, Brady Quinn’s week got even worse. After a hit on Terrell Suggs late in the game that has sidelined Suggs for a few games because of the knee injury it caused, the NFL hit Brady Quinn with a $10K fine for the hit. Ray Lewis and the Ravens are furious over the hit and Quinn….who is a friend of Suggs….has apologized a couple times already for the hit. Quinn admitted today that he is still shaken by the incident, stating that he wasn’t even planning on hitting Suggs. Figures. Brady Quinn couldn’t even hit THAT target on Monday night.
Randy Lerner Meets With Potential Candidate
In a speech at a local fundraising event, Jim Brown informed attendees that Randy Lerner was, at that time, meeting with a “great football mind” to lead the Browns in the future. Brown, who has served as a consultant and advisor for the Browns, would not state WHO Lerner was meeting with, but when someone asked if it was Mike Holmgren, Brown stated, “you said it….and I heard it”. So if you read into that cryptic comment that it actually was Holmgren, then it has to create some hope for Browns fans. The next question of course is whether or not Holmgren would be willing to jump aboard this sinking ship at a time when it appears nothing is going right for the Browns.
In related news, it has been rumored that Somali pirates tried to hijack the Browns sinking ship, and once aboard, demanded that someone take one million dollars from them for permission to get off it.
Cribbs Seems Fine, But Play Even More in Question
After the Browns and Eric Mangini were getting heat from the media and even Josh Cribbs’ agent, who came out publicly in a number of media outlets and blasted the Browns for putting Cribbs at risk for the final play of the Ravens game when the outcome wouldn’t have changed even if the Browns were able to pull off Music City Miracle Part Deux, Cribbs came out today with news that it was Brady Quinn who told him to keep the ball in play. So now everyone can blame Mangini for having Cribbs on the field, and Quinn as well for suggesting that Cribbs keep the ball alive, thus exposing himself to injury.
Can anything be put more on the struggling quarterback’s shoulders? Yes it can. There are unconfirmed reports that Brady Quinn is also the cause of the global recession, was the pre-pandemic first carrier of the H1N1 virus in the US, and was the etiquette coach for Kanye West just before his blowup at the VMA Awards.
TV Rating Bonanza On Tap For Sunday
On Sunday, the Browns will be in Detroit to play the Lions. This is the first time in the recent history of the NFL that two 1-8 teams will face one another. Advertisers have to be lining up to be a part of this telecast. Rupert Murdoch wanted to launch a new cable network, The Disaster Channel, and offered to carry the game as it’s first program. However, contractual guidlines between CBS and the NFL won’t allow it. Also, in a rare cross-network promotion offer, NBC has offered to buy all of the open advertising time on the CBS telecast to promo it’s show, The Biggest Loser. It may only be rumor, but I also heard that a Lions fan left a pair of 50-yard line tickets for this game, on the dash of his car parked on the street in downtown Detroit, with the windows open, hoping someone would take the tickets. When he returned, there were three more pair of tickets on the dash alongside his.
